Junior Program
Students between 5 and 7 years old are introduced to the foundations of self-defense, Japanese etiquette, and discipline.  Classes incorporate fun with a well-rounded blend of movement, body awareness, respect, and partner work.  Students gain confidence and focus through training as they practice cooperation and communication.
Students between 8 and 13 years of age are taught self-defense, respect, and responsibility. Classes build upon discipline, movement, coordination, and self-confidence.  The perseverance of each student is challenged as they learn to strengthen their minds and bodies, growing as individuals and leaders.
Teen students explore a more thorough understanding of body awareness and coordination through traditional self-defense techniques.  Students are expected to train at a higher level of commitment, focus, and discipline.  As students progress, they will be invited into the Advanced Teen Class where they are introduced to advanced Tai-Jutsu principles and movements.  These students explore real-life self-defense scenarios and dig deeper into the life and responsibility of a martial artist.

Advanced Tai-Jutsu students are invited to learn the traditional Japanese sword and staff arts of the Samurai and Ninja. Students explore fundamental solo movements and partner techniques. Classes promote students’ attention to detail, control, and a heightened awareness in their physical martial arts.

The Junior Senpai Leadership Program is designed to give students the opportunity to be leaders within the Dojo community.  Students are encouraged to deepen their understanding of Tai-Jutsu while developing important life and and leadership skills.  The program enhances self-confidence, communication skills, responsibility, and awareness. Students demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to the Art are invited to apply.

The Junior Tai-Jutsu program introduces children to the art of Ten-Chi-Wa Tai-Jutsu. Juniors develop and enhance:

  • Responsibility

  • Cooperation
  • Discipline
  •  Patience & perseverance
  • Coordination
  •  Problem solving skills
  •  Respect
  • Accountability

The Junior Tai-Jutsu Program introduces children to the art of Ten-Chi-Wa Tai-Jutsu, a traditional Japanese martial art founded in the ways of the Samurai and Ninja.  Tai-Jutsu is an original mixed martial art known as the “Grand Mother Art” of Karate, Judo and Aikido. The Art is based on natural body movement, emphasizing balance and awareness. Students learn how to defend themselves through efficient and effective movement, blocking, striking, rolling, falling, and body manipulation through unbalancing.

Junior Tai-Jutsu classes combine students that range from beginner to experienced.  Classes train as a group, and then in pairs as they build upon the material.  Students practice cooperation, communication, and respect for others through frequent partner work.  To keep their partners and themselves safe, students train in a slow controlled manner. Students learn self-defense techniques to protect themselves in various situations.

As each student progresses, they set individual goals, monitor their progress, and maintain the focus and perseverance necessary to achieve a Black Belt. Along the way each student will enjoy a sense of achievement through their physical and mental improvement. It is our mission to help each student grow and succeed in their goals inside and outside of the Dojo.

At Studio City Martial Arts, we believe in the preservation of life.  We do not spar or hold competition tournaments. Unnecessary contact is prohibited, and we do not believe in the glorification of fighting. At our Dojo, we do not train for trophies, but rather to protect ourselves and develop a strong sense of self.

Adult Program
The Adult Traditional Program provides an in-depth exploration of the Art of Ten-Chi-Wa Tai-Jutsu. Students receive a thorough understanding of movement and self-defense through basic Kyu level training. Advanced Black Belt techniques are taught to expand an individual’s understanding of the Art and prepare them for their Shodan, or first-degree Black Belt. Traditional Program students are exposed to more in-depth techniques, variations, and advanced concepts.

The Adult Fundamental Program focuses on the practical elements of Tai-Jutsu, emphasizing awareness and boundaries. Students receive a strong understanding of movement and self-defense through Kyu level training. To achieve a Fundamental Program Black Belt, each student will demonstrate their understanding of the Kyu level as well as the assigned advanced techniques.

Students are encouraged to train in the various classical Japanese weapons, beginning with the sword. The use of weapons is taught in the traditional Samurai manner. Classes integrate traditional movement patterns, etiquette, and partner work. Students gain attention to detail, control, and a heightened awareness through training. Exploration of weapon techniques and movement strengthens an individual’s understanding of the Art.

Students interested in the C.I.T. Program must embody a deep curiosity for the philosophy, history, and advanced mechanics of Tai-Jutsu. This curriculum is more rigorous and requires a greater commitment. Students learn essential teaching skills to be a successful and effective instructor. Advanced techniques and variations are explored during class to help each individual gain insight into the Art of Ninpo Tai-Jutsu. Graduates of the C.I.T. Program will receive an official instructor’s license (Shoden Menkyo) in Ten-Chi-Wa Ninpo Tai-Jutsu.

The Adult Tai-Jutsu Program trains in the traditional manner of the Samurai and Ninja. Tai-Jutsu is an original mixed martial art known as the “Grand Mother Art” of Karate, Judo and Aikido. The Art is based on natural body movement, emphasizing balance and awareness.

Adult Tai-Jutsu classes train the classical patterns that have been passed down through generations. All Tai-Jutsu classes combine students that range from beginner to experienced and students build awareness for themselves and others through frequent partner work. To keep partners and themselves safe, students train in a slow controlled manner. As an individual develops a stronger sense of the Art, they learn to apply the traditional movements to real-world situations. S.C.M.A. offers a Fundamental Program for students who are looking for the foundation of self-defense, and a Traditional Program for students who want a deeper understanding of the Art.
